Editorial Standards
These are the standards every guide, video page and image on Wise Home Comfort follows.
Our mission
We only speak the truth. We only help within the category we cover. We always cite our sources, and we’re friendly and easy to do business with. Our objective is to help you find a better alternative, or to confirm that your present choice is already your best choice. We’re creative in how we explain things, but we never exaggerate: we say only what’s true, and nothing misleading or unverified.
Federal sources first, and we link them
Each guide is built from official, public sources such as the U.S. Department of Energy (energy.gov), ENERGY STAR (energystar.gov), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (epa.gov), the Internal Revenue Service (irs.gov) and the Federal Trade Commission (ftc.gov). Every guide ends with a Sources list that names each page and the date we checked it.
State and utility programs are labeled
Rebates, permits, licensing and utility programs differ by state and by utility. When we mention one, we label it with the state (for example, “California:”), present it as an example, and remind you to check your own state energy office, licensing board and utility.
Numbers, prices and programs
- Every number comes from a linked source. We don’t publish made-up statistics, reviews, testimonials or awards.
- Prices, when we show any, are labeled approximate with their source and date.
- Tax credits and rebates change. We say when a program has ended, and we date every check.
Safety limits
We don’t publish refrigerant, gas-line or electrical repair instructions. Under EPA rules, technicians who service equipment that could release refrigerant must be certified. Our guides explain what to check and what to ask, and point you to a licensed contractor for the rest.
Opinions are labeled
When we share a view, we say “In our view” and keep it separate from the facts. We include the possibility that your current system is already the right one for you.
Images
Pictures on this site are illustrations created with AI image tools. They are labeled “Illustrative image” and do not show a real home, product or person. They contain no brand names or logos.
Ads and affiliate links
Ads are labeled “Advertisement”. Affiliate links, if a page has any, sit inside a box labeled “Affiliate links”, with “paid link” beside each one. Read our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure.
Corrections
If you find a mistake, tell us through our contact page or at rolandoc@toprankroi.com, with the page link. We check the report against the source, fix the page if we got it wrong, and show the updated date at the top of the guide.
